Jon

The Local Rescuer
My name is Jon and I’m the proud Dad to rescue dogs Jessie (Sprocker Spaniel) and Travis (Malinois). I have volunteered at local rescues in Essex for the best part of a decade, and with my wife, have fostered close to 30 dogs.

My passion for dogs has led to the creation of All Carrot No Stick Dog Training. I’ve primarily learned by experience, and through the fantastic trainers and behaviourists that have inspired me. I’m currently building my knowledge by undertaking a range of canine courses and reading a lot of books (happy to give any recommendations).

I can’t promise to always have the answer, and I don’t believe there are instant fixes or miracle cures in dog training. Progress requires patience, consistency, and most importantly love between the dog and their handler’s. With those three ingredients anything can be achieved.

The Two Rescues

Love Underdogs

A rescue with an incredible story. My wife and I have volunteered at Love Underdogs for nearly a decade, visiting their fantastic facility in Waltham Abbey and fostering many dogs to provide feedback on how they interact in a home environment.

Read more about their story (including work they do with bears in Romania) and the current dogs they are rehoming at www.loveunderdogs.org

All Animals Rescue and Re-Home

A rescue that changed our lives, and my career, when they trusted us to adopt Travis from them. This is an amazing home-based rescue and the founders work tirelessly to rescue as many dogs as possible and give them a chance at finding their forever home.

Take a look at their Facebook page to see their incredibly fun pack walks and the dogs they are currently rehoming.

  • I've been lucky to see the impact Jon has had with the dogs he has fostered through the years, none more so than Travis, whose transformation in the past 6 months has been incredible. When he began offering dog training services I knew he would be able to help me and so many others.

In recent months he has been supporting me in developing a strategy for my dog who suffers from separation anxiety. In such a short time the progress has been fantastic. Jon even undertook a specific Separation Anxiety training course to ensure he could offer me the best advice possible.

He has a fantastic demeanor with the dogs but doesn't dominate sessions, he lets me take the lead and gives me the confidence in my abilities.

I'd thoroughly recommend Jon and am excited to continue working with him moving forward.

  • I’ve been working with Jon for a couple years now, placing rescue dogs in his foster care to help them with behaviour and help them adjust to life in a home. More recently I’ve been working with Jon to progress his career as a dog trainer.

The first thing you notice about Jon which is what gave me the confidence in him to care for and train vulnerable dogs, is that he is totally dog-savvy, no ego, always keen to learn, and most importantly take on feedback, he is very driven to be his best self for the dogs he comes into contact with. He is relaxed, easygoing, and the dogs gravitate towards him because of this. He thrives off providing the best possible care he can for dogs, and this involves taking a dog’s every need into account, and adjusting his lifestyle to fit them.

I’ve placed dogs with Jon that have been highly stressed in kennels where they don’t show their true selves, knowing that Jon will undoubtedly meet all their needs every single time. He’s been able to train and work with behaviours by creating a stress-free environment, really excelling dogs in their journeys to find their forever homes. With a huge number of dogs fostered over the years, this experience is invaluable when it comes to assessing and training dogs with behavioural difficulties.

He’s helped dogs who were scared of their harnesses, slowly working with them so they can explore safely, to shut down dogs needing a patient no pressure environment, to dogs that would bounce off the walls full of stress in kennels, to dogs that are reactive and bite risks. The results speak for themselves and for me personally I’ve witnessed them firsthand over and over. When Jon came to me with his own reactive Belgian Malinois, I simply provided him with some guidance whilst he carried out all the heavy lifting; the results have been outstanding due to Jon’s work as a trainer.

There’s no question about it that Jon is an excellent guy to trust with your dog, just as I have many times over, and he will offer a level of dedication and professionalism that is unparalleled!
